Angus in Australia

Angus in Australia: Angus and Angus influenced cattle are run in varied environments across Australia, with members of Angus Australia breeding cattle in all states and territories. If you are heading to Australia for the 2025 Neogen World Angus Forum and looking to extend your time exploring this beautiful country, each state and territory of Australia has their own unique experience.

Angus cattle feature right across the country so if you wish to mix business with pleasure then make sure you visit one or more of the states below to get the full Aussie Angus experience.

South Australia

South Australia

Many people are aware of South Australia’s world class wine regions and as a producer of export quality cereals and hay, they are possibly unaware of one of our hidden gems – our Angus genetics. Angus cattle have been developed in South Australia since 1893. Whilst South Australian Angus breeders are renowned for producing Angus and Angus infused cattle that supply all sectors of the beef markets, our seedstock producers are the living embodiment of “An Angus for Every System”.

From the cooler, coastal climates of the Adelaide Hills and the South East to the hotter, semi-arid Far North, Angus genetics thrive. Angus SA seedstock producers have a wide selection of high end genetics that will help drive your cattle operation forward. Many Angus operations both commercial and seedstock , are located near the premier wine regions including the Coonawarra, Limestone Coast, Mclaren Vale, Langhorne Creek and the Barossa Valley. Each year, South Australian Angus seedstock producers offer approximately 1200 high quality, registered Angus bulls during “Angus Week” in late Summer . Our sale programmes are regarded as some of the highest concentrations of registered Angus bulls for sale in the country. It’s no surprise that the standard of our genetics attracts commercial and seedstock buyers from New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland as well as international semen company buyers. We encourage you to consider visiting us and discover our hidden gems.

Victoria

Despite being one of Australia’s smaller states, Victoria is a powerhouse when it comes to breeding quality Angus cattle to suit many markets. Hosting the famed Western District weaner sales in January and February of each year and the Mountain Calf Sales in March of each year – thousands of Angus cattle end up across the country performing in abbatoirs, feedlots, breeding programs and commercial herds alike.

Victoria is responsible for the sale of over 2000 bulls annually – all coming from stud Angus operations including some of the largest herds in the country right down to small studs breeding a few bulls. Outside of breeding quality Angus cattle, Victoria is renowned for its picturesque landscape from the beauty of Bright and the Australian Alps in the north-east to the adventure of travelling along the Great Ocean Road in the south, cruising the rolling lush hills of Gippsland in the south-east, unwinding in Gariwerd (Grampians) National Park in the West or eating your way through the foodie heaven that is the wineries, dairies, and orchards of the north-west. Angus Victoria works proudly to represent the interests of Angus broadly in this great Southern state, and we would like to take this opportunity to warmly welcome delegates and visitors to the World Angus Forum and Australia on the whole. We hope you can make it down south either around the World Angus Forum or for our state-wide Beef Week held in late January each year.

Western Australia

Bookings continue to arrive for the pre and post Forum tours as well as the Forum itself on Wednesday and Thursday 7th and 8th May 2025 in Brisbane.

There are nineteen members of the Western Australian Angus family inviting national and international visitors to visit their enterprise (mostly stud and one large commercial enterprise) before or after the Forum.  (And we suspect that all of them would welcome inquiries at any time of the year.)

Committee member Jess Dewar has put together a wonderful booklet with details of each of those 19 enterprises, information about where to find them as well as information about some of the many attractions Western Australia has to offer visitors to our physically large State.

Yes, you will need a car to visit them; some are an easy one day outing from Perth and other will require a little more time – depending, of course, on how much time you have available.  Many of them (14) have websites and contact details are included in the booklet.  Everyone involved will be delighted to share some time with visitors.

Any question: feel able to email Pam McGregor on maybenup@bigpond.com for some answers.
